Once you have prearranged your funeral, make your wishes known to both relatives and friends. It is especially considerate when your final wishes run contrary to what others might have done. This will protect the person who carries out these wishes. By law, your closest next of kin must properly dispose of your remains. If you prefer another responsible party, put his or her name in your will. This will give your preference greater legal stature. Above all, talk about your choices with those concerned. It is a way of alleviating possible future conflicts over which your presence will hold no sway.
