More than one hundred enthusiastic Rappahannock Democrats met at the Court House in Washington on Saturday, Dec. 4 to elect a new committee and to choose new officers who will serve for the next two years.
The overwhelming choice for Chair was Meredith Gorfein, popular county democrat. Lillian Aylor was chosen as new Vice-Chair, Floyd Stilley will serve as Secretary, and Andy Platt is the new Treasurer.
As her first order of business Mrs. Gorfein established a By-laws Committee which will meet immediately to recommend changes to the current by-laws. She said, “Our by-laws have prevented our Democratic Committee from growing. Not only is that contrary to the Democratic State Party Plan, it’s contrary to common sense.” Over 75 Democrats filed applications to serve on the Rappahannock County Democratic Committee; the By-laws only allowed 50.
All county Democrats are invited to the first meeting of the new Rappahannock County Democratic Committee. It will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Library. At that time the newly elected committee will vote to adopt new By-laws, Magisterial District Captains will be chosen, and a reinvigorated, focussed group of Democrats will begin planning for the new year.
