Society to present musical
Christmas Through the Centuries will be presented by the Front Royal Oratorio Society on Saturday, Dec. 11. The 7:30 performance will be held at Front Royal Presbyterian Church. The program will be directed by George Amos and accompanied by Mrs. Judy Connelly and a Brass Ensemble. For more information call Ann Andersen at 622-6974.
Winter series 5-K runs to begins
On Saturday, Dec. 11 the Shenandoah Valley Runners Club will kick off their eight-race Winter Series with the Poker Run 5K at Sherando High School in Stephens City. The race will start at 9:30 a.m.; registration begins one hour earlier. Entry fees are $3 for SVR members, $4 for non-members, and $1 for students. Runners of all abilities are welcome. Playgroup moving indoors
The Mother’s Playgroup is moving indoors. The group meets at Trinity Episcopal Church on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. A donation will be collected. For more information call Kathy at 987-9099.
Handling Holiday Grief
Hospice of the Rapidan presents a free workshop for anyone who has lost a loved one through death or divorce, to learn coping techniques for managing the emotional stress associated with the holidays. Everyone is welcome. The workshop will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the hospice office in Mulberry Commons, 1200 Sunset Lane, Suite 2320 in Culpeper. Shooting match at Castleton
The Castleton Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a shooting match every Friday night at 7 p.m. on the grounds of the department. Local residents are encouraged to support this endeavor.
Fundraiser underway
The Rappahannock County High School Athletic Boosters are beginning their main fundraiser of the year.
For a donation of only $20 you could be eligible to win a grand prize of $1,000; a second place prize of $750 or a third place prize of $250. Prizes will be given away at the last boy’s basketball game in December. You do not need to be present to win. There will be only 200 tickets printed.
Proceeds benefit the athletes at the high school and the athletic department. Tickets are available from any RCHS coach, at any home game or from any of the following Booster Club members: Nancy and Calvin Atkins, Monte and Lisa Clinedinst or Cheryl Taylor.
Fund drive underway at Chester Gap
The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department is having a special fund drive for the next several weeks in cooperation with Community Support Services. Families will be contacted by phone and asked to make a pledge. Each family that pledges receives a beautiful 10x13 canvas mount portrait, compliments of the fire department.
