to see a number of an artists works displayed together to take a measure of the depth and breadth of the individual’s inspiration and character. June paints landscapes at several locations and her paintings of people involve a variety of backgrounds.
“Floating Conversation” situates two highly colored nude figures on a dark settee against a cool gray, blue and white blank background. This combination of images and abstract space conyeys a sense of both life and stillness that keeps one’s eyes searching.
In two other pictures of women, “Jessica" and “Beauty and the Egg”, June combines an interior scene with a view of the out of doors. “Jessica” places a gracefully clad woman in a delicate pink gown before a door looking into a green field with scattered trees. The grays of the interior and the black Windsor chair make interesting shadows that contrast with the bright green grass.
“Beauty and the Egg” places a person in a well lighted room before glass doors, where a winter snow scene takes up almost half of the picture. Interest in this picture is created by many designs and shapes as well as a wide range of beautiful colors-purple, blue, red and tan. An atmosphere of calm is pervasive that emanates from both the woman portrayed and the setting she inhabits.
June Jordan has grown as a painter to match her stature as a potter. Be sure to visit the Cinema Paradiso for both paintings and ceramics. With these combined spaces, Joyce Kramer and June Jordan have made a beautiful rendezvous for which we should all be thankful.
