and will become volunteer firefighters. Carter says, “This is training that they have to have before they can go into a structure fire.”

The students will learn about fire behavior, rescue, use of portable extinguishers, hoses, nozzles and fire 'streams, ventilation, salvage and overhaul, hazardous material, awareness and response, self-contained breathing apparatus, public education and arson detection. Currently, the students range in age from 16 to 44.

On Dec. 11, the Amissville Fire Department will conduct what they call a Firefighter One and Two. This is a live, structural fire used as practice for firefighters in training. The students will be required to resuscitate a victim and put the fire out. Participants will leave the Amissville Fire Department at 7 a.m. The event should conclude at 4 p.m.

If anyone is interested in attending or would like more information, call Carter at 937-5125 or at home 937-4218.
