Town Council member Alice Butler was unrelenting in her quest for an answer to the question about the extent of the existing problem, but committee members were unable to provide a definitive response. Mrs. Butler wanted to know how many properties have septic problems, and she questioned the need for a $1.5 million system to solve a problem that might be limited in scope. She also expressed her view that those landowners with septic problems may not have adequately pursued solutions on their own, and should do so before the town assumed responsibility.
Town Treasurer Elaine Viguerie challenged the committee’s findings, and expressed concern about the proposed system’s cost and the means of paying for it. She nbted that the town’s restricted sewer fund had only $250,000, and said that “that leaves a lot of money . . . everyone would have to pay $10,000 each.”
