Science Crafts

Description: Using scientific principles and methods, students will conduct experiments and create crafts which they can take home with them. Students will also journal daily experiments in a log which they will create themselves.
Activities: Crafts include: periscope color spinner; marbled paper; light catcher; paper helicopter; mini-volcano; glue, oobleck, and other substances.
Students: Rising 2nd-4th graders, maximum of 10 students.
Sculpting with natural and
found objects ,

Location: Two different studios in Slate Mills.
Description: Students will explore natural and found objects for use in sculpture, and will create sculptures using various techniques to include hand-building and soldering.
Sculpture materials include clay, wire (copper steel, brass), and “trash.” Students will document their work through photography and writing and will view the works of various artists.
Activities: Clay exploration; Exploration of other natural materials; Sculpting with wire and soldering irons; creating “trash art.”
Students: Rising 4th-7th graders, maximum of 12 students.
Photo stories in a frame
Instructor: Paula Endo
Location: RCES Classroom
Description: Using 35 mm and Polaroid cameras and other art materials students will create autobiographical picture stories or collages. They will photograph their own faces, their own personal artifacts, and other images that symbolize their feelings and thoughts and combine these images to create an autobiographical collage or piece.
Cameras will be provided.
Activities: Gain camera skills through hands-on experience; Explore the environment using photography; create a collage of photographs and other art images.
Students: Rising 6th and 7th graders, maximum of 6 students.
