Mrs. Earl Edmonds of Huntly was the winner of the third place in the “Sunshine Cake” contest held in Front Royal on Bing Crosby Day- The contest was sponsored by the Swansdown Cake Flour Company and the winners were announced in the afternoon of Bing Crosby Day. Mrs. Edmonds received a silver cake tray as her prize on a cake baked from a recipe she [found in McCall’s magazine, named “Sweet J3tOry Cake.” ‘A number of homes in Rappahannock and Frpnt Royal will be open for visitation during Gairden Week, April 29-30 and May 1 by members of the garden clubs and any other persons interested. •The Rappahannock homes open include: IMeadowbrook Hall, home of Mrs. W.P. [Slaughter on Route 522 between Flint Hill and Huntly. A feature of the garden will be the Japanese cherry trees, expected to be at their peak during the three days for visits. Also the home of Mrs. Alexander Gordon, Windsor Lodge, near Huntly will be open. Raymond M. Johnson of Woodville has been appointed Chief Forest Warden of Rappahannock County, as of April 3. Mr. Johnson succeeds Joseph B. Johnson of Sperryville, who has been Chief Forest Warden for the past 13 years. Raymond Johnson has been connected with the Virginia Forest Service since 1935. From 1935 to 1939 he was Lookout Watchman of Red Oak Knob Lookout Tower. From 1939 to 1945 a leave of absence was granted to him so that he could look after his personal work. From 1945 up to the present date, Mr. Johnson has been patrolman and chief assistant to Joseph B. Johnson.
