Headwaters, Inc. (Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation) is sponsoring a series of no cost, high quality workshops for Rappahannock County students. Six simultaneous workshops will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m., Monday, July 17 through Friday, July 21.
School bus transportation will be provided to and from workshops from central locations around the county.
Tb date, plans are to offer most of these workshops at Rappahannock County Elementary School (RCES). Workshop group sizes and ages, instructors, descriptions and locations are listed below. Interested students should call Theresa Light at 987-9523 as soon as possible as slots are filling up quickly. Gardening with native plants
Instructor: Donna La Pre
Location: Outdoor Garden Classroom, Slate Mills
Description: Learning about balanced, sustainable gardening/agricultural practices and the role of insects and native plants in creating a healthy environment.
Activities: Insect and plant identification; Seed sowing; Illustration and documentation; Fertilizing, composting, mulching; Soil testing.
Students: Rising 5th-7th graders, maximum of 10 students.

Location: RCES auditorium (stage)
Description: Applying the basic training elements of dance and expression to activities that require strong movement skills such as sports, communication and theater.
Activities: Posture alignment; energy; use of space; movement dynamics.
Students: Rising 3rd-5th graders, maximum of 10 students.
Pottery
Instructor: Harriette Rosenblatt
Location: RCES Art Room
Description: Exploring the use of ceramic and polymer clays. With ceramic clay: handbuilding, sculptural, wheel throwing and glazing techniques. With polymer clay: sculptural and hand-building techniques.
Activities: Create containers using wedging and hand-building; create tiles; hand-build sculptures; create wheel-thrown pottery;glazing and firing.
