Eligible producers whose pastures were damaged by drought in 1999 can receive payments to help them reestablish forage crops. Established pasture is eligible where livestock are normally grazed and that was so damaged by drought that reseeding is required.
No assistance is authorized for hayland and any acres receiving assistance must be maintained in pasture for five years.
There will be two payment rates, one for reseeding with seedbed preparation and one without. Payment rates will cover the cost of the seed, seeding, and fertilizer but will not exceed $75 per acre. There is also a maximum payment limitation of $2500 per person.
However, participation in the program is expected to exceed the total funding allocated for the program; therefore, final payments received by producers may be reduced.
Signup for the program is going on now through April 14, 2000. Any re-seeding done before filing a Pasture Recovery Program (PRP) application will not be eligible for payment. All PRP practices will be completed by Sept. 30, 2000.
