Bucky Pizzarelli, the great jazz guitarist, comes form New York to The Theatre at Washington for a concert on Saturday, April 22 at 8 p.m. Celebrated jazz musician Chuck Redd plays vibes and drums and Steve Novosel plays bass.
The New Yorker wrote: “Guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, to borrow a phrase from Irving Berlin, just reeks with class. This consummate craftsman can seduce with velvety chords or rumble through a swing chorus with barrelling assurance.” Pizzarelli’s long career spans the years from the Vaughn Monroe Orchestra to White House concerts with Benny Goodman and Frank Sinatra to the present day.
He has been a staff musician with NBC and ABC. Pizzarelli has played with Skitch Henderson, Doc Severinson and Mitch Miller and appeared at Carnegie Hall with George Barnes and Les Paul. In a concert at the Boston Pops he played in duet with Stephane Grappelli with whom he toured for several years.
Chuck Redd made his international debut when he joined the Charlie Byrd Trio in 1980 at the age of 21. He is featured on Charlie Byrd’s final recording released just last month. The recording is titled “For Louis” and is dedicated to Louis Armstrong. He is planning anoth
