Mr. Coffman was born Aug. 24, 1913 at Bowman’s Crossing, Edinburg, son of the late Robert Lee and Bertha M. Bowers Coffman.
He was a graduate of Edinburg High school and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1933. He was an expert rifleman and served as a marine guard at the American Embassy in Peking, China until 1937.He opened Bill’s Sporting Goods in Front Royal in July of 1948 and retired in December 1997.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Cathaleen Scott Coffman; a son, Scott W. Coffman of Salem; three daughters, Carol Steele, Sylvia Baumgardner (formerly of Rappahannock) and Roxanna Leonard, all of Front Royal; two sisters, Nancy Miller of McLean and Marianna Berger of Lakewood, Colo.; nine grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Gerald Coffman.
Pallbearers were Junior Griffith, Donald Coffman, Gene McEartheron, Ray McDonald, John Baumgardner Sr., Richard Zimer, Eugene Miller and Walter Miller.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Front Royal Lions Club as well as Michael Coffman, John Baumgardner Jr., Don Simonpietri, Paul Bahn, David Allen Steele, William Nichols, Jeff Willis and Timothy Sealock Jr.
