On April Fool’s Day I was delighted to learn

the Maazels had withdrawn their application to increase the size of the Hearthstone School on their property. I thought how wonderful, the citizens of Castleton have shown our “good neighbors” the Maazels, how their proposed actions would adversely affect the community. ‘ On April 6,1 was disheartened to read in the Rappahannock News it was all a cruel joke. Mrs. Maazel’s letter makes it clear, the Maazels ai-e misinformed as to the basis of their CJastleton neighbors objections to their request, r The Maazels spend little time in Virginia aind it is not surprising they do not understand tjie impact their actions have on the community. When they are in residence, their guests create traffic that sometimes resembles that of cjur Eastern neighbors. As Mr. Maazel made it cjiear at the March Planning Commission meeting, what he does privately is none of our business. However, the location of a school is everycfiie’s business. It is the location of the Hearthstone School that we protest.

It is wonderful that the Maazels have contributed so generously to established charities ground the world. I am sure they have accomplished many wonderful things. However, their efforts to establish their own charity in Sastleton is ill conceived.
