As we think about the cattle and horses from a healthier perspective, we must look at the food we feed them. Not just the bag of grain full of preservatives, or the supplements we feed them, but the mainstay of their diet, the grass they eat on a daily basis. That grass may be growing in soil that is depleted of trace minerals mid many of the major minerals. Livestock, and that includes horses, are often very deficient in minerals and if good mineral/trace mineral supplements are given free choice often the animals will eat enormous amounts for one to two months until they have enough.
