The still lifes are not “still” at all but arrangements of living organisms. Birds, mice, turtles, frogs, and other wild acrobats maintain a delicate balance, one on top of another. Our contrived laws of nature do not apply here. Yet, an unmistakable order exists in each of these highly skillful and original works of art.
