On Wednesday, April 25 the Panthers varsity traveled to Luray to finally get in a game with our traditional, non-District rival, the Bulldogs.

Junior Jamie Keys, who has shown lots of promise this season, started on the slab for the Panthers. This day was not to be his day however, as the Luray team hit him pretty hard over 5 1/3 innings. The Panthers’ defense has not been there to help out when pitchers need it and it showed again today.

Despite getting their fourth double play of the season, the defense and the inexperienced pitching staff couldn’t stop the Luray squad from scoring. The final was Luray 11, Rapp 1; Keys was tagged with the loss.

The JV Panther played at home against the JV squad from Luray. Although the RCHS side had their hitting shoes on - gamering ten hits against the Bulldog team - the result was the same as the varsity. The inexperienced JV pitching staff just couldn’t stop the onslaught. When the dust cleared, it was the JV team from Luray on top 25-7.

On Friday, April 27 the Varsity squared off with the Cougars from Manassas Park, here at home. Senior Mark Wharton took the mound for the Panthers and pitched like he owned it. Having defeated the Panthers 16-6 at home on April 3 the Cougars were not prepared for the change in attitude displayed by the Panthers at home.

The defense and Wharton were great. One measly run they gave up over seven innings. But on Friday, April 27 the Panthers bats were silent - collecting only three meager hits and falling 1-0 to the Manassas Park side. It was a tough loss for the Panthers as they continue to struggle to capture that first victory.

The JV squad traveled to Manassas Park and through five innings it looked like they were on their way to their third
