lhe Junior Varsity has tor some reason, had troubles with the JV Bulldogs from Luray. Ahead 7-0 in the first game of the series, the JV Panthers fell 8-7 in the seventh inning of that game at home. On Wednesday, April 25 during the second game they fared no better on the road, losing to the JV Lady Bulldogs 8-3 at Luray.
On Friday, April 27 the “Big Game” for the varsity was here at home. It was a nice spring late afternoon, in front of a home crowd, when the bus pulled up with the Manassas Park team. The Lady Cougars of Manassas Park, led by senior, First Team, All State Pitcher, Jen Steele, showed why they are the reigning State Champions in the single “A” division. Steele, with an excellent defense behind her, shut the Lady Panthers down with no runs and three hits - one by senior, Dana Caldwell, and one each by Johnson and Sharp.
But it was the shaky play of the young, Lady Panther’s defense that exposed their inexperience and took them out of the game. The Cougars got seven hits and two walks off of Sharp. This together with eleven errors was too much to spot the Champs. Manassas Park had their way with our girls and won easily 7-0.
The JV Panthers fared much better. They traveled to Manassas Park that same afternoon and showed why they are still undefeated among their Bull Run District, opposing JV squads. They are sitting in first place with a 4-0 record. Their 15-3 defeat of the Manassas Park JV squad was also highlighted by the return of freshman pitcher, Brittany Thornhill, who was coming back from orthoscopic knee surgery, performed three weeks earlier.
