You say these are handcrafted buildings, what does that mean? What distinguishes this from if I go to, say Home Depot or wherever and buy a shed there?
Every piece of wood, each individual component has been evaluated and looked over at least two times, and put in that particular place where you see it for a reason, whether because of the different grains in the wood, or what have you... Also, we use rough sawn, air dried timber. You can see all the circular saw marks, because all this wood was sawn on a circular saw mill.
There are band saw marks; either band saw or circular saw marks. You don’t see those saw marks on store bought lumber or milled lumber. There is no plywood or other composite product anywhere. The carpentry and woodworking is of high quality. One nice woodworking technique we’ve used is that the vertical siding for example is fully ship lapped. Often an outbuilding around here will have battens on it; the traditional board and batten style.
We overlap each individual vertical siding board to eliminate the batten.
This adds a nice look and flow as the eye moves across the building. We also use large cut nails, as opposed to regular, round- headed siding nails.
All our nails are hand cut nails. They are galvanized and are a larger nail, combining aesthetics and function. Our goal is for the client to get a beautiful building that only improves with time.
