Bull Run District leading Manassas Park on Friday, April 27 the Lady Panthers first had to deal with a tenacious Lady Bulldog team.
The Luray game was the second in a traditional home and away series that the Bulldogs and Panthers enjoy in all sports. The Lady Panthers had beaten the Lady Bulldog Varsity 7-1 at Luray on April 9.
This game would be played on our new fields. Junior Gwen Johnson opened the bottom of the first with a walk, stole second and third bases, then scored on junior Amy Clinedinst’s infield grounder. It was the only run the Lady Panthers would get and the only one they would need. On the mound, Sharp shut them down, three in a row, seven straight innings without a runner getting to first base - a perfect gift! It can’t get any better than that - 21 up, 21 down, O runs, 0 hits, 0 walks, 0 runners on base and 13 strikeouts.
When it was over, the Panthers had just completed a four-game, home and away sweep of Shenandoah District foes, Page County and Luray High Schools. That hasn’t happened in any sport for awhile! The Panthers out scored the two schools 20-3 over the four games. The message is clear, RCHS can play softball in 2001,
