any student to enroll in one or more IB courses without having to commit to an IB diploma.
According to the draft plan, IB-related courses will first be offered to elementary gifted and talented students, and IB offerings would expand each year until a full IB curriculum is offered in the 2006-2007 school year. Near-term needs for the IB program are for an additional foreign language (the IB requires five years of foreign language versus the three years currently available at RCPS), building of support for the IB program in staff and the community, and funding for staff training.
Mission, vision
and goals
School Board Chair Wesley Mills discussed RCPS statements of mission, vision and goals for the school year, and the Board concluded work on the goals that will be published by the January meeting. The Board also accepted and adopted his draft Vision Statement and Mission Statement.
The Vision Statement says, in part, that: “Rappahannock County Public Schools exist to afford all students an opportunity to develop their capabilities and become contributing citizens. To this end, the schools endeavor to provide excellent educational programs for our students, facilitating intellectual, social and physical progress . . .”
