Admiral John Marocchi and I. Christopher Parrish of Rappahannock County were among 247 delegates who helped formulate legislative policies during the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s 76th Annual Convention Nov. 26-28 ht the Williamsburg Marriott.
The voting delegates decided on a variety of issues to ask legislators to support during the Virginia General Assembly, which will begin in January. Delegates approved a request for state cost-share funding of Best Management Practices, which include the construction of structures to protect waterways from agriculture nutrients.
Another priority issue is a request for state funding of the Ag Vitality Program, which would preserve farming and forestry. Administered by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Ag Vitality Program was created in 2000 to help preserve farmland and keep farming a viable industry in Virginia.
Along with setting legislative priorities, voting delegates re-elected four state board members. Paul Anderson of Frederick County, Jacquelin Easter of Amelia County, Bill Freeman of Giles County and Robert Hall of Northumberland County were reelected to serve another three year term.
