Dorothy Southard
Born in Castleton . Dorothy Estelle Wharton Southard, 68, of Castleton died Sunday, Dec. 2 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Southard was born March 22, 1933 in Castleton, a daughter of the late Walter Edward Wharton and Sally Ethel Wharton.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Clatterbuck and her husband, Harvey of Boston, Bonnie Skowronski and her husband, Peter of Washington and Brenda Jenkins and her husband, Tony of Sperryville and two sons, William Southard and his wife, Margie of Flint Hill and Donnie Southard of Castleton.
Additional survivors include seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Archie Wharton of I^ew Jersey and a sister, Rosie Wharton of Sperryville.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stonewall Jackson Southard; a brother,
(^larence Wharton and a sister, Edna Burke.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at Found and Sons Chapel with Pastor Carl R. Menefee officiating.
Interment followed in Sperryville Cemetery.
John Merando
Painter, gardener
John E. Merando of Peekskill, N.Y. died Nov. 13. He was 79.
Mr. Merando worked as a painter for West Point Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., retiring in 1980.
Born Nov. 17, 1921 in Cold Spring, N.Y. to Charles and Rose Merando, he served in the US Army in World War II
On March 28, 1948 he rrfarried Mary V. Palmiotto at Assumption Church in Peekskill. She predeceased him on June 29, 1971.
Mr. Merando enjoyed gardening and was an avid New Ybrfe sports teams fan. He will be remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
