The Shenandoah National Park Year 2002 calendar, leaturing the beauty of Shenandor ’i National Park is now available locally at the Old Sperryville Bookshop in Sperryville.
The twelve color photos in this calendar depict the park in all seasons, with scenes of sunset, spring mountain laurel and autumn’s brilliantly colored leaves, white-tailed deer, waterfalls, snow and ice and more.
The calendar is jointly produced by the Shenandoah National Park Association and the park concessioner, ARAMARK. The calendars, which retail for $8.99, are also available from the Shenandoah National Park Association at 999-3582 or from their website at www.snpbooks.org.
Food drive
underway at
Elementary School
The Rappahannock County Elementary School is happy to announce its annual collection of non-perishable foods, school supplies, toiletry items and new toys to be given to school families in need during the holiday season.
Items will be collected in the RCES lobby now through Dec. 17 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day. Boxes for the collection effort will be provided. The names of the recipient families will remain anonymous.
Suggestions for possible donations are: school supplies, canned goods, coloring books, puzzles, cereal, soup, soap, socks, toothbrushes, mittens, first aid supplies, sewing kits, games and toys. Please send only new items and nothing perishable.

DMV tightens
requirements for
identification

The Department of Motor Vehicles is tightening the requirements for obtaining Virginia identification documents by revising the list of acceptable documents for proof of identity
Snd residency. The agency is alancing action to reduce fraud Jwith the practical needs of Virginia's citizens to obtain driver’s Kcenses and photo identification cards.
Individuals applying for driver’s licenses must provide two identification documents, proof of social security number and proof of Virginia residency. Individuals applying for a photo identification card must provide two proofs of identity and proof of Virginia residency.
Proof of social security number is required for photo ID cards only if a person wants the number displayed on the card. Proof documents must be originals; photocopies are not accepted.
Customers may no longer use a Virginia issued photo identification card as proof of identity unless it was issued after Sept. 21, 2001, the date DMV stopped accepting the identity affidavit (form DL6) and residency certification (form DL51) documents.
