Volleyball
The Rappahannock Lady Panthers were not victorious in their home opener against Luray on Monday, Dec. 3. The Varsity came out and lost both games 15-8.
First year Head Coach Suzanne Zylonis attributed the Varsity’s flat performance to opening night jitters. The JV lost both games as well by scores of 17-15 and 15-9. Highlights were Dani Sicardi’s 100 percent serving percentage and Brittany Thornhill’s two kills.
Friday night at Page, while the basketball action was at home, the Varsity Lady Panthers suffered another defeat at the hands of the Page County Panthers. “We still haven’t found the right mix to rally for a win,” said Coach Zylonis. After a 15-4 loss to Page in game one, Rapp battled long and hard in game two, only to come up short 1511.
Captain Jessica Nawrocki had an outstanding game with seven kills and one critical block late in the second game. Junior Co-Captain Rachel Sharp had two kills and was able to convey 100 percent of her serves. In a surprise move, defensiveman Daniel Hiserman was able to get up for the big kill halfway through the second game. Setter Lara Kreyling’s performance setting was almost as impressive as her 100 percent service statistic.
However, defensively Rapp found themselves out of position too many times to combat the duo attackers above the net from Page.
After the game, Zylonis stated, “We have the perfect ingredients for an outstanding team, we just need to get the recipe straight, and the rest will flow. I have nothing but confidence in my team.”
