• Congratulations to the February 2002 RCES Students of the Month! The Student Advisory Council requests nominations from their classmates based on the character values of kindness, honesty, loyalty, respect, and the like. From those nominations one child is chosen from each grade, 4-7, each month.
The children who are selected receive a food certificate from Burgers ‘n Things in Sperryville, free ice cream from the RCES PTO, and a Student of the Month certificate.
The students chosen for the month of February 2002 are: Jessica Stout. 4th grade: Emma Hathaway, 5th grade: Emma Dodd-Henze; and Alicia Bums, 7th grade. We are very happy to recognize these students and their display of “Panther Pride”.
• Attention, Parents! The Rappahannock County Public Schools are about to become a part of the President’s Student Service Challenge. This program encourages children in grades K-12 to become involved in volunteer efforts that will make their schools and communities better places to be.
For grades K-8, students who have volunteered 50 hours over a 12 month period will receive a silver pin and a certificate of recognition signed by the president. For 100 hours of service, students in grades K12 will receive a gold pin and a certificate.
What qualifies? Helping an elderly neighbor, fundraising for a charity or school program, tutoring, volunteering in the library, picking up trash along the roads of our county, visiting tiursing homes, and so much more. Basically any volunteer
