Women started painting their legs because stockings or hose were scarce.
Nylon and silk was needed for the war.
International trade wqrs halted- Raw material was needed to make tanks, airplanes, battleships and ammunition.
Tin foil was saved and made into a ball and turned in to make ammunition.
Did we recycle? We didn’t call it that because it was a necessity in those days. We were taught “waste not, want not.” It applies even today.
