Volleyball
By Jon Smythe
The Volleyball teams played only one match this week and it was a major disappointment. The Lady Panthers hosted the first round of the Bull Run District playoff on Wednesday, Feb. 13 against the Lady Cougars from Manassas Park.
The Rapp girls were the second seed and had beaten the visiting team twice this season. Each of the other matches were no contest. One hour and a half before game time, the coach and team laughed and ate pizza, as they lounged around the bleachers waiting for the easy win that night and anticipated the tougher game that would follow on Saturday in the District semi-finals.
There was no doubt that the coach and the team were guilty of “looking ahead” to the next round of competition and it cost them. Before the Lady Panthers could figure out what happened, the girls from Manassas Park had stolen two games 15 to 9 and 15 to 8 and won the match.
The Rapp girls were dumbfounded and sat stunned in their own gym. The home crowd was just as stunned and silent. That was it. The season was over. No more games, no more tournament, no more
