my young seedlings this way too, though bottom -watering is preferred by some growers. I fipd that method clumsy indoors. A prophylactic spray made of diluted chamomile or nettles tea will repel fungal diseases, such as damping off. Temperatures of ^ 60- 70 degrees are adequate for most seeds to break dormancy.
