Circuit changes

Though Virginia’s point-topoint circuit as a whole remains virtually unchanged, several important additions have been made to series events, and a few changes to the official rule book for series competition.
New this year is the “Triple Thunder” challenge for light and heavy draft breeds, a series certain to attract a new breed of animal to the circuit. Bull Run, Rappahannock and Farmington-Keswick will host series events. [See feature story, this section.]
Pony races are now- offered in two, not three, divisions. The new designation of “small” will include ponies under 13 hands, with the “large” division for ponies 13 hands to 14.2. Series races are slated at Rappahannock, Piedmont, Farmington-Keswick, Old Dominion, Loudoun, Bull Run and the Virginia Gold Cup.
A new prize will be handed out to Virginia’s Novice Timber Horse of the Year. Points tallied in series races at Casanova, Blue Ridge, Warrenton, Farmington-Keswick, Orange County, Fairfax and Middleburg will decide the four top finishers, with $7,000 divided among winners. Individual races in the series offer a $1,000 purse.
