If many hands make light work, why do too many cooks spoil the broth ?
Likewise, if author Walter Farley was correct in “The Black Stallion” when he said that some horses respond only to a single master,” how, then, did Sovereign Storm win four races in Virginia last year — with four different riders? If Farley’s untamed black stallion related only to young Alec and “his whisper-soft touch,” how, then, did Ethical Actions win three times over hurdles in 2001 for three jockeys?
Horses differ: some tug on the reins and pull towards their fences with eagerness; others prefer a strong rider to place their jumping position and encourage every stride. Still others are tricky, testing every step for a way around a fence or a quick trip back to the van area.
