The National Steeplechase Association will expand the amateur-apprentice hurdle series this spring. NSA director Bill Gallo said that the series, limited to amateur or apprentice jockeys to help expand the jockey colony, was well received last season. Series hurdle races this spring will be held at Strawberry Hill at Colonial Downs, Foxfield in Charlottesville, Willowdale in Pennsylvania and Fair Hill.
There will also be five races on the flat for amateur-apprentices. Danielle Hodsdon, who started her jump racing career at the Jimmy Day stable in Millwood, won the ’01 series.
