early and often. An unfortunate “hand ball” in the penalty box gave Madison an early scoring chance with a penalty kick, but Rapp keeper Megan Wheatley came up with a big stop. Kylie Harlow and Maia Lucking provided strong midfield support for the “Purple People Eaters”, while defenders Alicia Smith and Emma Hathaway harassed the Madison strikers.
Madison scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game on a slicing shot that slid along the goal line, just out of reach of the diving Rapp goalie, Megan Wheatley, and crossing the goal line just inside the post.
On an absolutely beautiful Saturday morning in Rappahannock County (is there anything else?), the second half began with “Purple People Eater” Alicia Smith handling goalie duties. In her first time ever in goal, Alicia had five saves as Rapp defenders Emma Dodd-Henze and Jordan Lysaght kept Madison at bay. Late in the second half the Purple People Eater forwards Osha Kondori, Lily Day and Hannah Rosenbaum pushed the ball down the field several times, but were unable to generate any scoring opportunities. Next week the Rapp girls travel to Culpeper Comet Field. Good luck girls!
On Saturday, May 4, the RSL U12 co-ed team played Culpeper team 9. It was a hard fought game with Rappahannock holding a 2-1 lead at halftime. After the break, however, the Culpeper team played much tougher and scored 3 unanswered goals. The Rapp, team had it’s chances to go ahead, but the game ended with the score 4-2 Culpeper.
