The letter to the
Rappahannock News on Aug. 22 from Charles B. Cunningham, Director of Federal Affairs, National Rifle Association, about Candidate Ben Jones’ voting record on guns, tells us several things it is important for us to know:
1. Ben Jones’ candidacy is getting national attention.
2. We can see how the NRA works to deceive people about their interests; far from being concerned with “gun rights” and “hunting heritage”. NRA wants to promote the sale of guns. Three of Ben Jones’ votes that Mr. Cunningham lists have to do with the sale of hand guns and “semi-automatic firearms”. How many hunters use those weapons for hunting? What do the votes have to do with gun rights or hunting heritage?
The other two concerns hunting at Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge and the Mojave National Monument. How many hunters in the 7th Congressional District would be affected by prohibitions on hunting in those places? In any case, it is
