According to Arlen Sherwood, 17, and someone never much interested in the performing arts, a youth theatre in Rappahannock began “as a few friends and a dedicated lady talking together on a hot summer day in July.” That may have been the official beginning, but successive sowings of seeds had been going on for some time.
The Rainbow Bridge Rappahannock Youth Theatre is now fully organized as a nonprofit educational arts program for youth ages five through 24. They have an organizational structure which they helped devise and rehearsal space at the Rappahannock County High School auditorium. The Ki Theatre has offered its support for the project by putting up money to get it started and donating the space for the After School workshops this fall.
The first production of the Rainbow Bridge Youth Theatre will be an original work created by the young people. Called Legends of the Riainbow Bridge, it will take place in October at the High School.
