Leathers has been working on Rev Max for two years.
As this program began to develop in Rappahannock, Ms. Leathers and the DSS looked to the schools as its first partner. The school system and its guidance counselors already were identifying at-risk children and trying to help, and often were calling DSS for assistance. That lead to the creation of a position at DSS which worked half-time on those prevention issues. (The halftime portion of that salary can be “recouped.”)
Last spring the first invoice reflecting the tedious paperwork for the past two years was filed. Recently the Department of Social Services in Rappahannock recouped from the federal government $95,000 far surpassing the amounts received by neighboring counties.
