Leanna Wharton of Sperryville motored to New Market on Sunday and dined at Southern Kitchen in observance of the birthday for their mother and grandmother, Mrs. Wharton.

Mrs. D. J. Dodson of Salem, Mrs. Alvin Atkins of Sperryville, and Mrs. Michele Burke of Woodville were in Culpeper Sunday afternoon, joining about thirty other ladies at the V.F.W. Hall on Sperryville Pike, for a bridal shower for Miss Susie Smith, daughter of Elder and Mrs. Roger Smith, whose engagement and upcoming marriage to Douglas Lamb has been announced by her parents. Elder Smith is pastor of Five Forks Regular Baptist Church.

Our neighbors in Madison have been preparing for their 10th annual “Taste of the Mountains” street festival, to be held there Saturday, Aug. 31, beginning at 10 a.m. Nearly 200 booths have been set up and the bookings which have already taken place tend to make this festival one of the largest in our area. They will have plenty of food and visitors can also do Christmas shopping. A number of our area folk always attend and we know you w’on’t want to miss this one.

The schedule now for Novum Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jeff Light is; 7 p.m. on Monday Choir practice; 7 p.m. on Thursday is “Sing Along Time” with Bible Study on Wednesday, also at 7 p.m. and the public is invited.

A reminder to family members and friends of the late Thomas and Louise Jenkins, living in our area of the reunion to be held at the Rappahannock Park on Saturday, Aug. 31 beginning at 11 a.m. Special music will be provided by Miss Debbie Zinn and her friends.
