Wakefield Country Day School teachers of the lower and middle school, as well as our full-time art teacher, Marcy Lauben, participated in an all day workshop in the Monart Method of Drawing on Friday, Aug. 23, in Flint Hill.
Each teacher received a copy of Mona Brookes’ book Drawing With Children. Karen Price, a licensed Monart trainer and art teacher, came down from Pennsylvania in a car loaded with art supplies and a vast array of colorful student work.
The level of skill and individual expression amazed all who saw the work on the walls and tables of the auditorium. The evening before, Ms. Price presented this method and its benefits to the parents and gave a hands-on demonstration, leading parents and children in a drawing of a toucan. “Seeing is believing,” she said.
The Monart Method was developed by art education specialist Mona Brookes in 1980.
