Prom several accounts, it seemed a perfect match when Rappahannock County Social Services approved placing a 17-year-old Rappahannock High School student, who was in foster care, temporarily in the home of Lynne and Robert Fournier. Lynne Fournier is the band director of Rappahannock High School; the music student was a “prize pupil.” The student and teacher were said to have a deep friendship.
No one then had any clue that this foster home placement two years ago would undergo scrutiny today and that Mrs. Fournier’s husband would wind up charged with a total of five charges of indecent liberties with a minor, one charge of abduction, and another sex related charge. Mr. Fournier had had a clean record up until then.
Last week, on Sept. 10, one day before his scheduled trial in Fauquier County Court, Robert Fournier, 63, pleaded guilty in a plea agreement to two charges of indecent liberties with a minor and one charge of abduction. He is out on bond awaiting sentencing which is scheduled for Dec. 16.
The offenses occurred in the Fournier’s home in Fauquier County in November and December 2000, according to Fauquier law enforcement officials. For four successive days in November, Mr. Fournier allegedly took indecent liberties with the 17-year-old student. The next month, on Dec. 27, the other charges allegedly occurred— abduction (from her room to his room), and one more count of indecent liberties.
