If St. George had slain a dragonfly instead of a dragon, who would have remembered? If King Richard III had a horse but no kingdom to offer, would his battle cry still echo?
Legends are made on those largest of stages; and what bigger — or better — stage is there than acres and acres of a lush Virginia racecourse?
To wit, who can forget Virginia-bred and -owned Saluter’s amazing six-year run on the Virginia Gold Cup? Dragon-slayer he, certainly.
And what about last year’s epic battles between Ironfist and Bredesen Moe? Or A1 Skywalker’s clear adoration of Montpelier’s rolling turf in his runaway Noel Laing victory last November? It would indeed take a kingdom to buy that horse.
