Rappahannock Youth Soccer League played its second weekend of games on Saturday, Sept. 14.
U-6
The U-6 Travelling Blueberries, sponsored by Leading Edge Inc., continue to impress onlookers with their enthusiasm and amazing speed. Shelby Thornhill is a real standout, sticking to the ball like gum on a shoe. Lauren Groves and Grace Lezcano play the ball to each other like true team mates.
Trey Swindler and Mimi White prove to be leading scorers, with a knack for finding the opening and penetrating the defense. Daniel Schlosser shows incredible ball handling skills, able to strip the ball from his opponents and send it back towards the Blueberry goal. Coach Wagoner reports she is pleased with the progress of the team.
U-8
The U-8 Green Dragons, sponsored by Curtis Crawford, had a terrific first game against the Madison 3 team at Madison. Goals by Alex Foster and Mimi White,with great offensive support from Dylan Stoner,Grace Ott, R.T. Leake, and Emily Pearcey, quickly put the Dragons on the scoreboard.
The defense was just as strong with great playing by Kimberly Pankow,Samantha Landrum,and Marc Cugnon, “who scored from midfield!”
Everyone,including the parents had a great time and are looking forward to next weeks game.
Coach Lee’s U-8 Fireballs, sponsored by Motorcycle Factory Inc., played Madison and was happy with his balanced scoring and passing. Improved players for the game were Hanna Jenkins and Brigid Sladky. Go Fireballs!
