For the past 15 years, Bailey has been the official artist for the West Virginia Breeders’ Classic. She has also done paintings for the Virginia Thoroughbred Association Hall of Fame.
Bailey’s subjects have included horses such as Man O’War, Secretariat and Ruffian. Her primary medium is oil on canvas but she also works with watercolors and pastels.
“We are very fortunate to have such a talented artist representing the International Gold Cup,” said race director Diane Jones. “She really understands the sport and is able to fully capture the horses and riders as well as the essence of the event.”
The painting, “Second Time Around” depicts horses and riders as they head towards one of the turns in front of the stewards stand at Great Meadow.
The fall International GoldCup and spring Virginia Gold Cup have a long history of fine art: each year, an artist is selected to produce the official painting for each race meet.
