Middleton Inn, an historic estate on Main Street in the Town of Washington, was the only bed and breakfast in the Mid-Atlantic region to receive AAA's coveted Four Diamond Award for 2002.
The highly-prized Four Diamond Award, bestowed on only the top three percent of hotels and top four percent of restaurants that AAA inspects each year, went to 22 hotels and 13 restaurants in the Baltimore-Washington, DC area.
They include hotels and restaurants such as The Jefferson, The Willard Inter-Continental, Omni Shoreham, Renaissance Mayflower, The Watergate, Hyatt Regency in Baltimore, the Suites at Prince Michel, Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner,, L'Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls, L'Auberge Procenvale in White Post and Elysium in Alexandria.
"These Four Diamond winners consistently excel by providing skilled and attentive service staff, a high level of customer service, and top-of-the-line amenities and ambiance," said Lon Anderson, director of public affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.
"They truly are the cream of the crop," said Mr. Anderson. "'Only about 1,300 of the 27,000 AAA-rated hotels and nearly 12,000 restaurants are Four Diamond properties."
Middleton Inn has been owned and operated by journalist Mary Ann Kuhn since it opened its doors in the fall of 1995.
