Since Ben Jones lives in
Rappahannock County and is also a local businessman and donates his time and talents to local charitable organizations, I would imagine there are many more events occurring here to report on in the local newspaper.
I heard Ben Jones speak on several occasions and he certainly doesn’t come across as someone who is going to vote any way but what he thinks right for his constituents. Perhaps you haven’t read any of his issue statements. If you visit his website a lot of your concerns could be alleviated. (www.beiyonesforcongress.com ). He has made it clear that he is taking no PAC money - thus, he will be beholden to no special interests, and he has a record of a pay as you go fiscal conservative.
Have you checked Ben’s voting record during his two terms as a Congressman from Georgia? And as far as Ben being a carpet bagger, he grew up in Virginia and graduated from high school in Portsmouth in 1959.
And better yet, to quote Ben: “As a legislator, I think the best way to approach lawmaking is to be a problem solver, not one who is committed to an ideological agenda of the left or right. Although I have been called a conservative Democrat, I consider myself to be independent and thoughtful on the issues, and I believe my record bears that out. I also believe that the public interest is often overwhelmed by the special interests and for that reason I accept no contributions from Political Action Committees (PACS). I think a legislator should avoid even the appearance of improper influence.”
Mr. Hagstrom, you may disagree about issues — but that certainly wasn’t what your letter appeared to be about.
