Present plant

The Town of Culpeper’s present wastewater treatment plant, which opened for operation in 1979, and was upgraded to an Advanced Wastewater Treatment plant in 1983, is located along Chandler Street, east of the town. It has a capacity of three million gallons per day.

Currently, the plant processes about 1.5 to 2.0 million gallons of wastewater per day, including some stormwater runoff. Treated effluent still is discharged into Mountain Run, and “cakes” of sludge are spread on farmland.

There are about 22 other wastewater treatment plants
