A wassail weekend will be held at Smokehouse Winery on Dec. 7 and 8 from noon to 6 p.m. Smokehouse will have at least four meads for tasting and three for sale (Honeysuckle, Juniper, Berry and Wassail-taste only).
There will also be acoustic music and unique local treats — goat cheese etc. A $10 fee ($8 Rappahannock)'is quite the deal for vanquishing your lust for the award winning mead.
Smokehouse Winery recently took third place in a mead competition. Mead (or Honey wine) the formerly revered drink of medieval times is being re-recognized by connoisseur's and the general public alike. This fact was illustrated by the first big event (like the Great American Beer Fest) in international mead consumption/judging in Chicago Nov. 8-9.
