several meteors per second shooting across the s\y. So I hanging onto a hot cup of coftee I joined my landlady on her front lawn, which has the clearest view of the eastern sky.

It was a beautiful night. Unfortunately, what made it beautiful was a glorious full moon, so we thought we wouldn’t see much, and we didn’t — at first. Then a few faint streaks appeared overhead and a bit east. As the moon slowly went down and our eyes adjusted to the sky, the streaks intensified and became more frequent — first one here a bit to the south, then one there, to the north, then several overhead.

Finally we seemed deluged with ever-brightening streaks coming from the east and shooting off in all directions. In a typical show of nature’s rhythms, the dawn slowly started to break as the storm peaked and the moon set, and the meteors disappeared into the growing light.
