It is also thanks to Barbara Sherwood who persisted in her vision of the school's integrating Monart into their educational approach. Convinced of the uniqueness and effectiveness of Monart in improving “visual literacy”, among other skills, Ms. Sherwood sought funding. She was turned down many times until Kathy Tredway heard her appeal and became the fairy godmother in the story!
The caliber of student work to be displayed and sold is exceptional: complex visual ideas are rendered skillfully and demonstrate the confidence these young artists feel in their newfound visual fluency.
It was also amazing to see some examples of the children’s artwork at the school, pre-Monart and after. There is no mistaking that this approach has had a major, beneficial impact.
