10. Next, the Panthers had to defeat Strasburg and send them home. In this match, Rappahannock took an early lead, never looking back, winning 180-70. In toss-up scoring, Collins garnered 60 points, Vickers 30, and Tbm Gillis and Forrest Marquisee, both seniors, 10 points each.
Now it was down to three teams, with the winner of the Rappahannock-Clarke match facing off against district powerhouse George Mason and guaranteed a ticket to Regionals. Clarke took an early lead of 70-35 in round one, with all the Panthers points coming from Vickers, despite’ an interruption on a question' about “dewpoint.” The directed round was a tie, leaving the score at Clarke 110, and Rappahannock 75. In the third and final round, things fell apart with only two questions answered correctly by the Panthers, and three more interruptions with wrong answers, two by Vickers and one by Chad Carroll, a senior. The final score of the last match was 160-80, bringing a largely successful season to an abrupt end.
