Last week was busy once again as students at RCES and RCHS competed in the local Science Fair. The projects were on display at RCES, and as usual, congratulations are in order to all of the students who entered, and especially to the winners, who will compete at the regional fair at UVA on March 9.
Thanks to all who made the competition possible, including the Rappahannock County science teachers, the school administration, the volunteer judges, and the Rappahannock National Bank for their support and participation. Assemblies were held at both schools on Friday, Feb. 3 where the winners were announced.
In the junior division, consisting of grades 6-8, the overall winner was F.T Moulton, III for “Static Electricity Production in a Leyden Jar.” This student received a ribbon, a Science medal, a certificate, and a $100 savings bond, courtesy of Mike Leake at RNB. First-place runner-up was Fabian von Feilitzsch for his project, “What is the Effect of Electrolysis on Water?,” and he received a $50 bond as well as a ribbon, a medal, and a certificate.
