After receiving letters from Haskell, the Clarks, and other citizens interested in Washington’s prospective wastewater system, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has agreed to hold a forum for public comment at the end of March or early April.

“I think that this public hearing will be an excellent educational opportunity for the public,” said Beverly Hunter, head of Rappahannock Friends and Lovers of Our Watershed (RappFLOW). While members of the public expressed hope that the hearing would be a chance for Washington to consider alternatives, McCarthy pointed out that the town had already considered several alternatives before arriving at their decision.

“I’ve been at the table with the Tbwn of Washington for ten years, and I think the town has been very responsible about exploring other options,” said McCarthy.
